Getting Around China: High-Speed Trains, Metro, Taxis & Flights
High-speed trains
Book on the official 12306 site/app (English available) or through Trip.com. Your passport is your ticket; scan or show it at the gate. Arrive 30–45 minutes early at big stations; there are security checks.
Metro
Every big city has a metro. Pay with the Alipay/WeChat "transport QR code" or buy single tickets at machines.
Taxis
Use DiDi; show the destination in Chinese characters to drivers.
Flights
Useful for long distances (e.g. Beijing–Chengdu, Guilin). Domestic flights need your passport.
